History

Weichai was originally founded in 1946 as Yucheng Ironworks in Weifang, China, focusing on manufacturing rifles and repairing steamboats. However, it quickly shifted its focus to diesel engine production. By the 1960s, Weichai had developed a significant lineup of engines for marine applications and tanks, earning recognition as a major industrial producer in China. In 1998, the company began a transformation that would lead Weichai Power Co., Ltd. into international markets, expanding its product offerings across multiple industry segments, including marine, on-highway, off-highway, and power generation. In 2009, the group of companies was reorganized as the Shandong Heavy Industry Group (SDHI), where Weichai Power Co., Ltd. continues to play a significant role, growing both organically and through various acquisitions and strategic partnerships, including Moteurs Baudouin, Power Solutions International (PSI), Ferretti, and the KION Group. Today, Weichai Power is recognized as a leader in its industry, generating over $40 billion in revenue and maintaining a presence on all continents.

Today, through Weichai Power Co., Ltd., the company operates in multiple industry segments with a diverse product portfolio that includes on-highway and specialty trucks, agricultural equipment, handling and construction machinery, mining equipment, luxury yachts, and the engineering and manufacturing of its own engines and critical components, such as transmissions. In 2025, the production of diesel engines exceeded 780,000 units and in many of these sectors, Weichai Power leads with technology and innovation, consistently pursuing quality, which remains the foundation of its business development. Weichai Power has over 80 subsidiaries and sells its products in approximately 110 countries across Europe, North America, and Asia.
